AHSGR-GRHS LIAISON COMMITTEE
Minutes of July 28, 2008 Meeting
Casper, Wyoming

The meeting of the AHSGR-GRHS Liaison Committee was called to order at 4:45 p.m.  Committee members in attendance were:  Velma Jesser, Ed Hoak, chair and Jerry Siebert, Society President.  Excused were Leona Janke, Bob Lembke, Leona Mann, Karen Penner, Ron Rutz, Ed Wagner and Roger Rutz.

The minutes of the Spring Committee Meeting and the agenda for this meeting were approved by consensus.

The status of the convention for the remainder of the week was discussed with the feeling being that things are normal for this stage of the process. Issues arise but are being handled with no major problems.  Members of both Boards will be encouraged to meet the Board members from GRHS.

The only active project between AHSGR and GRHS is the 2008 convention.  Joint archival acquisition efforts have been somewhat on hold, and the recent death of Dale Wahl may have an adverse effect on GRHS activities since he was such a strong figure in their efforts.

President Jerry Siebert’s thoughts concerning liaison activities with other organizations were discussed.  It was suggested that this committee attempt to make contact or maintain contact with The Federation of East European Family History Societies (FEEFHS), The Glückstal Colonies Research Association (GCRA), The Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe  (SGGEE), Bukovina Society of the Americas, the Center for Volga German Studies at Concordia University (Brent Mai) and Germans from Russia Heritage Collection (Michael Miller).  It was suggested that Leona Mann be the primary contact with SGGEE since they are based in Calgary and she knows Jerry Frank.  It was also suggested that we extend an invitation to them to participate in next year’s Medicine Hat Convention.  Further steps will be discussed during the fall meeting.

The use of Web Teleconferencing was discussed with no clear recommendation given.  It may have merit, but may also be difficult to use for committee discussions.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
