AHSGR Nominating Committee
Members present: Al Hart, Larry Schenkel Members absent: Ed Hoak, excused; Leona Mann, excused; Ron Rutz
Meeting was called to order at 4:30pm. With only two members present we did not have a quorum and could not conduct business. Al and I did discuss all of the vacancies on the Board and listed names of persons who might consent to serve, either by election or appointment.
We discussed ways to inform the membership of our need for participants on the Board of Directors. I will continue to ask for help from the members with appeals in the International newsletter. I will also continue with appeals to chapter presidents and ask chapter newsletter editors to put articles in their newsletters. Al and I then went over the spreadsheet showing the districts of AHSGR and the vacancies already present and those upcoming. We have fourteen (14) possible vacancies. Of these, four of them may be filled by members standing for election or re-election. We have four persons (five, if the by-law change passes) willing to take a one-year appointment. This will still leave five vacancies on the Board of Directores. I also had conversations with Jerry Seifert and Ed Hoak concerning these problems. We agreed that all board members need to take an active part in finding candidates for the Board. Addendum to the summer meeting of July 29, 2008:
The business meeting on July 31, 2008 dealt with the nomination from the nominating committee, then nominations from the floor. It also dealt with the two changes in the by-laws. It was felt these changes were necessary because of the difficulty securing nominees for the Board of Directors as well as officers of the Board. The two proposed by-law changes both passed. 1. A person can now serve more than three terms on the Society Board of Directors. Because of this change, our president, Jerry Siebert, was nominated and elected to serve a fourth term. He is from District 1 2. A president can serve more than three terms as president. Jerry Siebert will begin his fourth term as president. Also elected to serve on the Society Board were, Nancy Borrell, District 3; Lauren Brantner, District 4; Ed Wagner, District 5; and Leona Janke, District 10. When nominations from the floor were called for, Donald Kraemer was nominated and elected for District 7. Donald is from Tucson and belongs to the Arizona Sun Chapter. His villages are Shaefer and Saratov. Welcome aboard, Don, and thanks for taking the plunge. I think you will find serving on the Board of Directors challenging and very fulfilling. The following is a list of the districts and the results of the election and appointments. As you can see, we now have a full board. I wish to express a most sincere and heartfelt "THANK YOU" to the "old" members of the board and especially those new members for agreeing to serve.
