Passenger Ship
List Index
About
this Resource
The Passenger
Ship List Index
is a useful resource
to search for
information on the
name of ship, date,
and port of arrival
for German-Russian
immigrants to the
Americas. This index
references the
periodicals of
AHSGR, GRHS, and
other German-Russian
organizations, that
contain passenger
ship list
extractions. This
passenger ship list
index is not
all-inclusive, and
does not list every
German-Russian
immigrant. Most
entries pertain to
North American
arrivals. This index
is current through
1999 for AHSGR
periodicals and
indexes over 30
years of ship
passenger lists
published in various
German-Russian
periodicals.
Using the
Ship List Index
This index is
organized in three
parts:
The surname of
immigrant
By searching for
a surname, you will
find the name(s) of
the periodical that
those surnames were
listed in. You will
then need to obtain
copies of the pages
in those particular
periodicals to find
the names, ages and
relationships of the
individuals, as well
as the ship they
came on, port of
arrival, date and
sometimes the
village name.
Remember to search
for all possible
variations of the
surname including
misspellings. The
same method can be
used by searching
for a village or a
ship.
List
by Surname:
The village from
which they departed
By searching for
a village, you will
find the name(s) of
the periodical that
those villages were
listed in. You will
then need to obtain
copies of the pages
in those particular
periodicals to find
the names, ages and
relationships of the
individuals, as well
as the ship they
came on, port of
arrival, and date.
Remember to search
for all possible
spelling variations
of the village.
Sometimes province
names were listed
instead of a village
name on ship
passenger lists.
When available, the
AHSGR map number and
quadrant on which a
village appears is
noted on the
Village File
Inventory. Maps
may be purchased
from the
store. Some
villages have
village coordinators
to assist in village
research. A list of
village coordinators
can be found at the
AHSGR Village
Coordinators.
List by
Village:
The ship on which
they arrived.
By searching for a
ship, you will find
the name(s) of the
periodical that the
ship was listed in.
You will then need
to obtain copies of
the pages in those
particular
periodicals to find
the names, ages and
relationships of the
individuals, as well
as the ship they
came on, port of
arrival, date and
sometimes the
village name.
