Membership Benefits

  • Access to member services including a request for search of Society records for historical and genealogical purposes, and document translation services, all at reduced rates.

  • Reduced prices on books, maps, census lists and genealogical charts. Hundreds of individual selections to choose from.

  • The surnames and villages you are researching will be listed in the Society's surname exchange publication Clues and its updates (if information is received before June). Note:  To be listed in CLUES, do NOT check the Privacy Option on the Membership Application and Data Form.  In addition, you must submit to AHSGR at least one copy of an Ancestral Chart and a Family Group Chart, completed to the level you can, or a GEDCOM data file.

  • Reduced membership registration fees for the AHSGR Annual Conventions.

  • As a member of AHSGR you are encouraged to join a local chapter and participate in the chapter's programs and activities. Visit the chapter list on this web site to see if there is a chapter near you. (Joining a local chapter may require a small annual membership fee.)

  • Internet ‘Open Access’ (no fee required) search, view and download capability for a number of AHSGR historical records and publications is available to all AHSGR members and non-members.

  • An AHSGR 'Members Only' website, that will provide access to information and enhanced genealogy research opportunities is planned for availability to various levels of AHSGR Membership in the 2015-year.

  1. Clues - A genealogy helper for researching family histories includes: Lists of villages and surnames that AHSGR members are researching; lists of AHSGR member contacts that are willing to exchange research information, and the AHSGR Village Coordinator Network. Clues provide instructions for submitting GEDCOM data files to the AHSGR database. GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication. Research Your German Russian Ancestors (GR-Research) - The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) is an international organization dedicated to the discovery, collection, preservation, and dissemination of information related to the history, cultural heritage and genealogy of Germanic Settlers in the Russian Empire and their descendants.

    Internet technology now permits SOAR to provide the broad dissemination of many of the AHSGR records, and to implement the SOAR vision to provide INDEX / KEYWORD / SOUNDEX access to AHSGR information.  You will find an expanding collection of obituaries, census and cemetery records, family group charts, maps, newspapers, photos, reference books, surname chart supplements and AHSGR publications (Newsletters, Journals, Clues and Work Papers). SOAR allows for unlimited search, view & download of any available online database.

In the 2014-year, AHSGR introduced, with no fee required, Open Access                GR-Research, and in the 2015-year, the Members Only GR-Research is
scheduled to be launced.

 

     Open Access GR-Research is accessible by all AHSGR members and non-members.  GR-Research available data now includes: Obituaries; Cemetery Records; Federal Land Records; Passenger Lists; Work Papers; and 1978-1998 AHSGR Journals.  Additional research data will continually be introduced as it ebcomes available.

 

     Members Only GR-Research is Open Access GR-Research plus additional research data that will be available to Premium and Life membership levels.

       -     All of Open Access GR-Research accessible information

       -     Initially, Members Only GR-Research data will include: current Journals;
       Reference Books; Family Histories; and current Clues.  Additional research
       data will continually be introduced as it becomes available.      

 

GR-Research information is available for genealogy research from multiple German Russian regions, including Volhynia, Black Sea, Volga, Ukraine, Poland, Bessarabia, and Caucasus.  Included are obituaries from all 50 states, especially those with large concentrations of Germans from Russia, such as, North Dakota, South Dakota, California, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and countries, such as, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Germany and Russia.
