Additional Commentary:

1.      Clues - A genealogy helper for researching family histories: Lists of villages and surnames that AHSGR members are researching. Lists AHSGR member contacts that are willing to exchange research information, and the AHSGR Village Coordinator Network. Provides instructions for submitting GEDCOM data files to the AHSGR database. GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication. Important consideration: to be listed/published in Clues, do NOT select the "Privacy Option" on the Membership Application and Data Form.

2.      Saving Our Ancestral Records (SOAR) - The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) is an international organization dedicated to the discovery, collection, preservation, and dissemination of information related to the history, cultural heritage and genealogy of Germanic Settlers in the Russian Empire and their descendants.

Internet technology now permits SOAR to provide the broad dissemination of many of the AHSGR records, and to implement the SOAR vision to provide INDEX / KEYWORD / SOUNDEX access to AHSGR information.  You will find an expanding collection of obituaries, census and cemetery records, family group charts, maps, newspapers, photos, reference books, surname chart supplements and AHSGR publications (Newsletters, Journals, Clues and Work Papers). SOAR allows for unlimited search, view & download of any available online database.

Beginning in the 2014-year, SOAR will be available, with no fee, as ‘Open Access SOAR’ and ‘Members Only SOAR’:

     Open Access SOAR is accessible by all AHSGR members and non-members.

          - Initially, SOAR data will include:  Obituaries; Journals; Work Papers;
      Oklahoma Homestead Records; Cemetery Records; Bessarabian Records;
      Ship Lists; Clues; and Life Events.

     Members Only SOAR is Open Access SOAR plus additional research data that will be available to Premium/Contributing and Life membership levels.

       -     All of Open Access SOAR accessible information

       -     Initially, Members Only SOAR data will include: current Journals; Reference
       Books; Family Histories; and current Clues.

SOAR information is available for persons and families from multiple German Russian regions, including Volhynia, Black Sea, Volga, Ukraine, Poland, Bessarabia, and Caucasus.  Included are obituaries from all 50 states, especially those with large concentrations of Germans from Russia, such as, North Dakota, South Dakota, California, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, and countries, such as, Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Canada.
