Outstanding Local Chapter Newsletter Award

Beginning with the 2010 AHSGR Convention and each convention thereafter, the Society will recognize local chapters that publish an outstanding newsletter for AHSGR members.  A newsletter can be a traditional printed publication, or an electronically delivered newsletter.  A first, second, and third place winner will be selected.  Entries will be judged on appropriateness and usefulness of content, appearance, design, and the quality of writing.  Qualities for consideration include the following:
  1. Does the newsletter have overall eye appeal, design, illustrations, layout, and white space?
  2. Does the newsletter cover upcoming events?
  3. Does the newsletter report on Chapter Activities that have occurred?
  4. Does it include features such as historical data about the origins of the chapter members?
  5. Does the newsletter contain suggestions for genealogical research, etc?
  6. Does the newsletter contain information about chapter officers and leaders and how to contact them?
  7. Does the newsletter contain creative/original writing?

Entry Specifications:

  • A local chapter officer or member may nominate a newsletter.
  • One edition of the chapter newsletter must be submitted electronically in PDF format and must be received no later than May 1, 2011.
  • The electronic mailing should also include the name and address of the individual who is making the submission, and name of the Chapter.
  • An electronically submitted letter of not more than one page describing the frequency of publication and how the newsletter in question meets the selection criteria should also be sent.
