Willkommen!

Thank you for visiting the website of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.  Established in 1968, AHSGR is an international organization dedicated to the discovery, collection, preservation, and dissemination of information related to the history, cultural heritage and genealogy of Germanic settlers in the Russian Empire and their descendants.  We have the largest repository of information on Germans from Russia in the Western Hemisphere.  All German Russian settlement regions are represented in our library and museum collections.

Welcome from the AHSGR Board Members, Trustees, and Staff!

The German Russian culture is rich with traditions, music, games and food for all ages, and this year’s convention of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia will let young people from all backgrounds get a taste of them.

Kindertag is scheduled Wednesday, Aug. 1, during the convention in Hays, Kan. Children ages 5-14 are invited to spend the day with the Ellis County Historical Society to learn about German music, dance, and games; folktales and German words; daily life for the early Volga German settlers in Ellis and Rush counties; and German recipes. Many hands-on activities will give the participants experience, including making and eating grebble!

Registration is open now for Kindertag
